KHS Athletes to Play in Miss Basketball All-Star Game

The 16th Annual Miss Basketball Kearney Senior All-Star Game will
feature 20 of the Kearney area’s top seniors from last winter.  The
game starts at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, at the UNK Health &
Sports Center.  Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students (k-8).

Two Kearney High seniors, Nicole Arp and Shelby Maloley will play
for the White team. The team will be coached by Kearney High
Head Coach Jason Boyd.    
   

The all-star game will be followed by the championship game of the
Miss Basketball Showcase, a national prep all-star tournament for
underclassmen.

The Kearney High School Booster Club is proud to announce the scholarship winners for the 2009-2010 school year.  This year’s recipients are Nicole Arp, Brandon Landanger, Shelby Maloley, and Chase Svoboda.

Nicole Arp is the daughter of Dale and Kathy Arp. Nicole is a four sport athlete at KHS, including volleyball, basketball, track and soccer.  She was the Hub Territory Player of Year for the last two years in basketball. She set the single season, single game, free throw, and career scoring records for KHS girl’s basketball team.  She is attending UNK in the fall planning to study Elementary Education and play basketball for the Lopers.

Brandon Landanger is the son of Bill and Jen Landanger. Brandon is also a four sport athlete, football,  basketball, track and Legion baseball. He was the Vice-president of K Club, a member of FBLA, Key Club and lettered in Chorale.  Brandon plans on attending Nebraska Wesleyan University where he will play football and participate in track while studying for a career in Secondary Education in Math.

Shelby Maloley is the daughter of Vicky Maloley.  Shelby played volleyball, basketball and soccer for KHS and graduated #1 in the class. Shelby earned many awards honoring her academics and athletic skills throughout her career at KHS.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, FCA, FBLA, and was the co-editor of the KHS Yearbook.  Shelby will be attending University of Nebraska at Kearney studying Pre-med pursuing a degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology.  She hopes to be a Pediatrician or an Orthopedic Surgeon.

Chase Svoboda is the son of Dan and Darcy Svoboda.  Chase participated in football, cross country, swimming and track.  He earned numerous Academic All-State awards during his time at KHS.  Chase is also a member of National Honor Society, K Club, FCA and Key Club. Chase is choosing to pursue a degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Each winner applied to the Booster Club during their senior year and the scholarship committee chooses the winners.  They will each receive $500 to use towards their college education. The money for the scholarships is raised through various fundraisers through out the year.
